MALAYSIA AIRPORTS’ LAUNCHES GREEN DAY 2012 AS EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY

SEPANG – Malaysia Airports launched its inaugural “Green Day” programme, a two-pronged employee engagement programme which aims to stimulate environmental awareness and also to enhance camaraderie among its staff.

The programme is one of the Company’s Environment Cross Functional Team (CFT) initiatives, with the execution being led by Malaysia Airports’ Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), Human Resources Services Division.

This is one of the Company’s employee engagement activities, and through this programme, Malaysia Airports shares and instills its belief and commitment in environmental preservation with all the staff. Malaysia Airports has always placed employee engagement high on the organisation’s agenda, and will continue to hold similar programme in the future in its relentless pursuit of organizational excellence.

Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Aris Othman said, “The objectives of this Green Day are also in-line with Management’s commitment towards carbon-neutral growth and the Company’s aspiration to become an environmentally friendly airport.

“The theme of our Green Day 2012 is “Colouring Our Corporate Office Green”. I believe that it is a good start for the first Green Day to be held here at the Corporate Office where all policy making members and senior management should have a strong awareness towards the efforts of going green and set a good example to the operating level.”

Tan Sri Aris was also elated by the staff involvement in this programme, “This enthusiastic participation from all staff is a testimony of our commitment and support towards environmental initiatives. It is a positive sign towards increasing staff engagement through an event where everyone shared a common goal of conserving and nurturing the environment.”

Through Green Day, Malaysia Airports hopes the staff will discover more about the challenges that the natural world faces and learn what sustainability means to them and their workplace. It will also present a refreshing and stimulating change of scenery especially to the desk bound employees.

Green Day has lined up exciting activities such as Walkathon around the Malaysia Airports’ Corporate Office, Green Treasure Hunt, Fish Release and Green Exhibition. Staff was also given the chance to mark their commitment in green future by planting trees, with 500 trees from 5 different species were made available.

To further highlight Malaysia Airports’ commitment in environmental sustainability, the Company’s websites will also undergo few enhancements; one of it being visitors can download environmental-theme desktop wallpapers from the section.

The overwhelming reception for this inaugural Green Day programme will see the programme be extended to other airports and will be included as Malaysia Airports’ annual programme. It is Malaysia Airports’ aspiration that such programme will help in identifying and develop internal ‘champions’ who can be the driving force in environmental sustainability.
