MALAYSIA AIRPORTS PRESENTS THE FINAL BATCH OF AWARDS TO SUCCESSFUL TENDERERS FOR klia2

Local entrepreneurs - retailers, food and beverage and service operators exultant at the klia2 Award Presentation Ceremony


SEPANG – Malaysia Airports presented the final batch of awards to successful tenderers yesterday for various retail, food & beverage and service outlets encompassing different areas throughout the terminal.  
According to Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports, the airport operator received overwhelming response for the tender briefing sessions with over 1,600 interested parties comprising retailers, F&B and services operators attending the sessions.  The overwhelming response was due to Malaysia Airports' new concept of innovative retailing at klia2.


Tender briefings were conducted in phases with 133 different opportunities made available.  Phase 1 was conducted in December 2011, Phase 2 in end February/early March 2012, Phase 3 in April 2012 and Phase 4 in May 2012.  The first, second and third phases involved 27, 39 and 37 tenders, respectively.  The fourth phase proved to be most exciting with 30 tenders comprising individual lots as well as packaged deals.  All in all, 161 outlets had been tendered for the first day of operations at klia2.


“Malaysia Airports is very pleased with the tender results as it well epitomizes the travel retail aspirations for klia2.  The brands and products proposed by the successful bidders were also perfected by creative concepts, originality and engagement -- values that are synonymous with the klia2 retail brand principles,” said Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad.


“All in all, the awards to local entrepreneurs encompass over 90% of awards at klia2 and 33% of the successful tenderers are completely new to the local airport commercial environment.  We have secured a complementing mix of local travel retail business partners as well as new business partners to provide a vast variety of offerings as well as deliver the crème-de-la-crème of travel retail experience to our customers.  The awards also demonstrate Malaysia Airports unwavering support towards the development and growth of local entrepreneurs,” added Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad.


Puan Faizah Khairuddin, Senior General Manager of Commercial Services added that the awards will introduce various new brands and concepts to klia2.  Travellers will start their journey as a ‘Retail Explorer’ from the public concourse area and be ultimately pampered with more variety and choices at the airside area that is after security and immigration check points.

 
Puan Faizah Khairuddin further explained that the offerings at the public concourse area will have more F&B centric offerings, thus providing a wide array of F&B concepts and brands, fast food outlets, lifestyle café, casual dining restaurants and grab & go counters, which in totality offers a good range of local and international fare.  While the retail offerings are basic travel needs such as pharmacy, books and gifting.  


Travellers will be spoilt for choice at the restricted area as duty free offerings galore complemented by exciting and new retail concepts, ambiance and experience.  Travellers can luxuriate in the spectrum offerings ranging from chocolate & confectionery, perfumes & cosmetics, fashion & accessories, gifts & souvenirs to beauty & wellbeing as well as satiate their appetite for the finest gastronomic experience.


Amongst the new and exciting retail brands in klia2 are BE, Beauty Collections, Chocolate Galaxy, Desigual, Men’s Fashion Walk, Puffy Buffy, Quiksilver, Roxy, Swatch, Taste and Treats and My Lifestyle Gallery.  Dining concepts varies to cater to the needs of travellers.  Brands making a debut for the first time in a local airport environment are Aseana Café Bar, Baab, Baskin Robbins, Bumbu Desa, Chatime, Nonya House, PappaRich, The Loaf, The Library, Uncle Lim’s and Urban Food Court.
