Lahad Datu is famous for the world's largest Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, where the primeval apes can be seen in their natural habitat. The airport is located 1km from town, and is able to accommodate Fokker 50 and smaller commuter aircrafts. The terminal is equipped to handle 100,000 passengers, annually.
