Sepang- Malaysia Airports and Beijing Daxing International Airport (BDIA) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote knowledge exchange in airport management, technology, and innovation. The signing was celebrated during a document exchange ceremony at Beijing Capital International Airport, held alongside the 9th Beijing Global Friend Airports CE Forum. The event was attended by Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports, and Mr. Li YongBing, Acting President of CAH BDIA.
The MoU marks a key milestone for both airport operators, underscoring their commitment to global excellence. By sharing best practices in passenger processing, digital solutions, and sustainability, Malaysia Airports aims to enhance the travel experience and stay competitive. The partnership also focuses on leveraging BDIA’s expertise in green initiatives to reduce carbon footprints and drive eco-friendly operations.
Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports, stated, “This partnership augurs well to position Malaysia as a key aviation hub, as we continue to work towards offering passengers enhanced convenience and expanded travel options. It aligns seamlessly with our vision to extend Malaysia Airports' global footprint while fostering stronger ties that benefit not only the aviation industry but also the broader economic relations between our nations.”
This strategic partnership will boost joint marketing efforts to position both airports as leading international hubs, while also exploring new flight routes and expanding connectivity between Malaysia and China. As a major gateway in Beijing, BDIA serves 180 destinations with 190 airlines, making it a valuable partner in this collaboration.
Last August, Malaysia Airports had the privilege of hosting a delegation from the Beijing airports at KL International Airport (KLIA). The delegation was led by Mr. Ma Yin, Vice President of BDIA, alongside Mr. Mu Jianliang, Vice President of Capital Airports Holdings Technology Management Co. Ltd., Ms. Xiong Ying, Chief Information Officer of Beijing Capital International Airport.
The two teams engaged in a productive roundtable discussion, sharing valuable insights on operational practices and technology research and development. Both sides expressed strong interest in continuing the dialogue and collaborating further, which ultimately led to the recent MoU signing between the two airports.
This partnership is particularly significant as Malaysia and China celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2024, and builds on the existing strategic partnership between the two nations. The MOU sets the stage for both airport operators to work in synergy towards fostering economic growth, tourism, and connectivity, ultimately strengthening Malaysia and China as key players in the global aviation landscape.
SEPANG - Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport or better known as Subang Airport (IATA Code: SZB) recorded a significant 25% increase in international passenger traffic in August 2024, following the re-introduction of jet operations after a long hiatus. The resumption of jet operations at SZB has been met with positive feedback well received, enhancing connectivity to a wider selection of domestic and regional destinations. The airport’s strategic location near to the city centre also offers a more accessible and efficient travel alternative.
In August, SZB welcomed 21,096 international passengers, up from 16,900 the previous month. Currently, SZB is served by five airlines—three local and two international. Firefly Airlines (FY), Scoot (TR), and Transnusa (8B) operate international flights to Singapore and Jakarta, while AirAsia (AK) and Batik Air (OD) provide domestic connections to Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, and Penang, among other destinations. Domestic traffic at SZB in the same month totalled 83,904 passengers, contributing to an overall passenger count of 105,000, representing a 1.3% growth compared to the previous month.
Across its local network of airports, Malaysia Airports surpassed 8 million monthly passenger movements for the second consecutive month, reaching 8.4 million passengers. This figure includes 4.4 million international passengers and 4.0 million domestic passengers. Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI) saw a 7% increase in international traffic, fuelled by AirAsia's new route to Ningbo (NGB) and additional thrice-weekly flights to Denpasar. The growth was largely driven by key international markets, with Indonesia, China, and India leading the way.
In Türkiye, Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW) recorded 3.9 million passengers in August 2024. This included 2.1 million international passengers, buoyed by new routes from Pegasus and Ajet Airlines, which introduced weekly flights to Tuzla and five weekly flights to Cairo. Domestic traffic also remained strong, reaching 1.9 million passengers.
Overall, the Malaysia Airports Group achieved 12.3 million passenger movements in August 2024, maintaining a robust performance with over 12 million passengers for the second consecutive month. This represents a 96.1% recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. The sustained growth is attributed to various factors, including late-season summer travel, the launch of new airlines and routes, increased flight frequencies, and the resumption of jet operations at SZB. These developments highlight the Group’s ongoing strategic efforts to enhance connectivity and meet rising travel demand.
SEPANG- Kesiapsiagaan rangkaian lapangan terbang di Malaysia dalam menghadapi bencana udara terus diperkukuh menerusi pentauliahan seramai 98 orang pelatih pegawai dan anggota baharu Perkhidmatan Bomba dan Menyelamat Lapangan Terbang (AFRS) Malaysia Airports di dalam satu Majlis Perbarisan Tamat Latihan Asas AFRS edisi ke-13 di Perkarangan Kawasan Airside, Kompleks Bunga Raya, Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa KL (KLIA) pada hari ini.
Majlis pentauliahan melibatkan 10 orang pelatih kadet sebagai pegawai AFRS dan 88 orang pelatih rekrut sebagai anggota AFRS tersebut telah disempurnakan dengan kehadiran Yang Berhormat Datuk Haji Hasbi Bin Haji Habibollah, Timbalan Menteri Pengangkutan Malaysia sebagai perasmi dan diiringi Tuan Muhammad Hidayat Ismail Pengurus Besar AFRS. Turut hadir ke majlis tersebut adalah Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Ts. Nor Hisham Mohammad, Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia selain pimpinan tertinggi Malaysia Airports, wakil-wakil jabatan kerajaan dan agensi, syarikat penerbangan serta ahli keluarga dan sanak saudara pelatih AFRS.
Penubuhan AFRS adalah bagi mematuhi keperluan Akta Penerbangan Awam 1969, Peraturan-Peraturan Penerbangan Awam (Pengendalian Aerodrom) 2016, Civil Aviation Directive-14 Volume 1 selaras dengan Standard and Recommended Practices (SARPs) yang dikeluarkan oleh Pertubuhan Penerbangan Awam Antarabangsa (ICAO). Ia menetapkan kewujudan mandatori sumber manusia dan memadam kebakaran di sesebuah kawasan aerodrom yang mengoperasikan pesawat penerbangan komersial.
Para pelatih AFRS telah dilengkapi dengan ilmu pengetahuan kemahiran bertugas dalam bidang mengendalikan kecemasan menyelamat dan memadamkebakaran, malah turut diuji dari sudut daya ketahanan fizikal, sudut intelektual sepanjang tempoh latihan selama lebih 5 bulan setelah proses temuduga terbuka, saringan dan pemilihan dijalankan.
Selain daripada itu, para pelatih AFRS juga telah didedahkan kepada modul-modul seperti kawad kaki dan kebombaan, pembiasaan pesawat dan lapangan terbang, alat pernafasan, peralatan perlindungan diri, komunikasi kecemasan, memadam kebakaran pesawat dan bangunan, penyelamatan dan pengurusan mangsa, pengoperasian jentera bomba, keselamatan kebakaran bangunan, pengendalian bahan merbahaya (HAZMAT) serta beberapa lagi modul jangka pendek.
Selain daripada itu, majlis pentauliahan tersebut turut memberi anugerah penghargaan khas kepada pelatih AFRS yang terbaik dalam enam kategori seperti berikut:

Pengambilan bakat-bakat baru oleh pihak AFRS juga akan diadakan secara berperingkat yang akan dijalankan meliputi tiga (3) wilayah iaitu di Semenanjung, Sabah dan Sarawak bermula bulan November tahun ini.
SEPANG- The Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad Group (Malaysia Airports or the Group) today reported its financial results for the quarter ended 30 June 2024 (2Q2024) and the first half of the year (1H2024), reporting 1H2024 revenue of RM2.73 bi lion, 20.5% higher compared to the same period last year (1H2023). The Group’s Earnings Before Interest Taxes, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) rose to RM1,321.4 million from RM1,025.3 mi lion a year ago. Its 2Q2024 group revenue stood at RM1,378.9 million, an increase of 11.9% from the corresponding period last year (2Q2023), while its 2Q2024 EBITDA rose to RM649.5 million from RM583.4 million in 2Q2023.
The improved financial performance was underpinned by the sustained recovery in passenger traffic, with 15.8% more passenger traffic, or 65.0 million passengers, carried in 1H2024, compared to a year ago. International passenger movements continued to increase, improving by 28.9% to 34.1 million passengers in 1H2024 compared to 26.5 million passengers in 1H2023. As of the end of 1H2024, group passenger traffic recovered by 95.4% against pre-pandemic levels. Its Malaysian operations saw 45.0 mi lion passengers carried in 1H2024 compared to 38.9 million passengers in the preceding year.
This robust growth in 1H2024 traffic was bolstered by the operationalisation of six new airlines to Malaysia, namely Cambodia Airways, Flydubai, Iraqi Airways, Juneyao Airlines, Thai Lion Air, and Turkmenistan Airlines. Average load factor for 1H2024 stood at 78.8%, surpassing the 1H2019 level by 3.4 percentage points. Meanwhile, its Türkiye operations saw an increase of 16.4% in passenger movements from 1H2023 to 20.0 million in 1H2024, mainly driven by the continued growth in its international passenger movements. In 1H2024, the Group’s Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW) welcomed AJet’s introduction of new services to various international destinations including Ercan, Basel, Tbilisi, Belgrade, Baghdad, Budapest, Hannover, Hamburg, Pristina, London Stansted, and Stuttgart. Additionally, the airport also welcomed the commencement of Air Arabia and Air Cairo operations to SAW.
For 1H2024, the Group recorded an almost 146.3% increase in its net profit position, recording a net profit of RM395.8 million compared to RM160.7 million in 1H2023. For 2Q2024, its net profit stood at RM205.8 million, up 100.7% from RM102.5 million a year ago.
The Group’s Managing Director, Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani, said that Malaysia Airports is optimistic about maintaining the positive momentum in its operational and financial performance, “International passenger movements are expected to remain strong in both its Malaysian and Turkish operations, driven by the summer season demand. We will continue pressing for enhanced connectivity and increasing the number of airlines operating in both Malaysia and Türkiye while continuing to focus on improving passenger experience at the airports. With the new Operating Agreements and gazettement of new Aviation Service Charges up to December 2026 in place, we are able to better invest in the airport infrastructure and operations, ensuring that we meet and exceed the expectations of our passengers and stakeholders, and support the Group's long-term vision of growth and excelence.”
