KUALA LUMPUR September 1, 2016: Under Japan Airlines’ (JAL) continual efforts to reimagine and raise the bar in cabin experience, JAL introduced the Boeing 787-9 equipped with an all-new cabin interior called JAL SKY SUITE 787 (SS9). Kuala Lumpur will be the first destination in Asia outside Japan to welcome the SS9 configuration which will service the Tokyo (Narita) = Kuala Lumpur route daily from September 1, 2016.
A welcome ceremony was held at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to commemorate the arrival of the new aircraft. Members of the media were invited to have an onboard tour of the aircraft cabins and were also shown a meal presentation at the boarding gate to showcase JAL’s attention to detail and commitment to quality and hospitality.
Mr. Masaru Onishi, Chairman of Japan Airlines reiterated on JAL’s commitment to our passengers during the opening speech of the ceremony saying, “with JAL’s 787-9, we will be able to serve you our customers better and make your trip as comfortable and memorable as we can.” Mr. Onishi also emphasized on JAL’s 48 years of service to Malaysia by “enabling people and cultures to meet and communicate, for businesses to grow and leisure seekers to create memories.” and expressed his gratitude to our passengers for enabling all these by choosing to fly with Japan Airlines.
Malaysia Airports’ General Manager of Marketing Division, Mohamed Sallauddin Mat Sah who were also presence at the ceremony said, “We are committed towards building a strong and mutually beneficial relationship with Japan Airlines to support its growth. This has encouraged many of our airline partners to increase and improve their services and frequencies, giving rise to Malaysia’s continued overall growth.”
The SS9 adopts a three-class configuration and introduces the Premium Economy class to the Narita = Kuala Lumpur Route. Passengers can look forward to flying in greater comfort and privacy on board the SS9’s award-winning, fully-flat JAL SKY SUITE seats in its Business Class and spacious JAL SKY PREMIUM seats in Premium Economy Class. In Economy Class, passengers get to enjoy the JAL SKY WIDER II, voted as the “Best Economy Class Seat” at the Skytrax® 2015 World Airline Awards. JAL also maintained the existing 2-4-2 configuration and increased the seat pitch in the SS9’s Economy Class, providing up to 5cm wider seat width and more legroom than the common configuration.
