Malaysia Airports Ensures Joyful Experience For Passengers During The Aidilfitri Festive

The airport operator is working closely with the rest of the airport community to ensure that passengers experience a safe and seamless travel experience during this super peak travel period

SEPANG – Malaysia Airports is working closely with all airport stakeholders to ensure a safe and seamless travel experience for passengers travelling through its airports during the super peak travel period between now until 10 June 2019.  This super peak travel period is due to the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri which also coincides with Pesta Gawai and Keamatan as well as the school holidays. Its flagship airport, KL International Airport (IATA Code: KUL) is expected to see nearly 100,000 daily passenger movements at each terminal during this period, an increase of about 3% from the previous Aidilfitri season last year. Local airlines operating at both terminals - KLIA Main and klia2, have added more than 500 additional flights during this period to cater to the increase in domestic and international passengers.

According to group chief executive officer of Malaysia Airports Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, “All  critical touchpoints and facilities such as traffic management, parking, check-in counters (CIC), security checkpoints, immigration, customs, washrooms, Aerotrains and baggage reclaim have been put on high alert with additional manpower in place not only by Malaysia Airports but also agencies such as the Royal Malaysia Police, Royal Malaysian Customs, Immigration Department of Malaysia and airlines.”

“In fact, last Friday we had announced the reconfiguration of the arrival customs lane at KLIA Main, where we had added six additional lanes in order to ease congestion during periods such as this. This same initiative will also be implemented at klia2 beginning 1 June. Nevertheless despite these measures, we strongly urge our passengers to arrive at the airport early to avoid late boarding or missed flights. Passengers should arrive as early as three or four hours before the flight departure time. Passengers should also utilise our MYairports mobile app to plan their journey to the airport. The app is available on both Google Play Store for Android and App Store for iOS. Through the app, passengers will be able to navigate their way from home to the boarding gate quicker,” he added.

The kerbside, being the first touchpoint in the passenger journey, will see the placement of additional officers from the Royal Malaysia Police and Malaysia Airports to monitor the vehicles and prevent unauthorised parking to avoid traffic congestion. Drivers are also reminded to strictly adhere to  the 2-minute pick-up and drop-off time at the kerbside. Meanwhile, the roving Airport CARE Ambassadors are ready to assist passengers should the need arise. These ambassadors are easily recognisable through the ‘Ask Me' sash that they are wearing.

For the convenience of our passengers, Malaysia Airports also provides 30-minute free parking at the 5,000-bay Long Term Car Park (LTCP) to those who need to wait and pick up passengers. There is also the free shuttle bus service from the LTCP to the terminals that operate at 15-minute intervals for passengers and meeters-and-greeters.

Once again, we wish to issue these travel reminders to our passengers:
1) Please arrive at least four hours before your flight departure time.
2) Do utilise public transport as much as possible in getting to the airport. It only takes about 30 minutes by KLIA Express.
3) Please be mindful of traffic rules within the airport area. We have ample parking spaces at both terminals as well as a safe and convenient waiting area and 30-minute free parking facility at the LTCP.
4) Do utilise the automated processes that are available whenever possible such as web check-in, self-check-in kiosks, self-baggage-drop counters, and immigration autogates.
5) If you are passing through KLIA Main Terminal, we encourage you to take advantage of the shuttle service instead of the Aerotrains as not only will it be a less crowded alternative, it is also fast, convenient and scenic. Our busses run continuously 24/7 between the contact pier and satellite building.
6) Keep a lookout for the signage on nearest available washrooms in the event that the one you visited is fully occupied or is undergoing cleaning. There are a total of 238 toilets and 55 surau at both terminals for the convenience of passengers.
7) Should you require any assistance at the airport, please approach our CARE Ambassadors who can be easily recognised by their shoulder sash that says ‘Ask Me’.

To all passengers, Malaysia Airports wishes you Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir Batin and have a happy journey!
