Sepang, 5 February 2014 - Malaysia Airports launched its third annual "Green Day" programme, a two-pronged employee engagement activity which aims to stimulate environmental awareness and to enhance camaraderie among its staff.
Through this programme, Malaysia Airports shares, instils and stimulates its belief and commitment in environmental preservation with all the staff. The programme is also a platform for Malaysia Airports to further publicise the implementation of its environmental initiatives.
Malaysia Airports has always placed employee engagement high on the organisation's agenda, and has made Green Day as its annual programme towards its unrelenting pursuit of organisational excellence.
It was one of the Company's Environment Cross Functional Team (CFT) initiatives and the execution of the programme was led by Malaysia Airports' Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), Human Resources Services Division.
Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Dato' Sri Dr. Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah, Chairman of Malaysia Airports said, "The objectives of Green Day are parallel with Management's commitment towards carbon-neutral growth and the Company's aspiration to become an environmentally friendly airport. I sincerely hope that all of Malaysia Airports' staff will take into consideration these actions while executing their daily work to ensure that we continue to be in the right path towards achieving success in all our environmental effort."
Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Dato' Sri Dr. Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah was elated by the staff involvement in this programme, "The continued enthusiastic participation from all staff in Green Day programme, which is already in its third year running, is a testimony of our commitment and support towards environmental initiatives. It is an encouraging sign towards increasing staff engagement through an event where everyone shared a common goal of conserving and nurturing the environment."
Exciting activities lined up for this year's Green Day include the traditional "Batu Seremban" and "Ceper" Challenge. For both challenges, each team comprising three members will compete in round robin mode. The idea of these games is to bring back the fond memories of traditional games, which is more environmental friendly and promotes camaraderie amongst staff. It is also to project the Malaysian image in line with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
Exhibition booths are also available, featuring organisations such as World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Little Green Planet, Ecoteer, Bamboo Malaysia, Pertubuhan Perlindungan Khazanah Alam Malaysia, Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KETHHA), Paya Indah Wetland, Land Rover Malaysia and Malaysia Airports' own Sustainability Unit.
Through Green Day, Malaysia Airports hopes that its staff will discover more about the challenges that the natural world faces and learn what sustainability means to them and their workplace. It also presents a refreshing and stimulating change of scenery especially to the desk bound employees.
Looking at the success of the two consecutive Green Day programmes at Corporate Office, Malaysia Airports is planning for similar programmes to be extended to other airports soon. It is Malaysia Airports' aspiration for such programme to identify and develop internal 'champions' who will drive the environmental sustainability.
