SEPANG – Malaysia Airports conducted a full scale aircraft accident practice at klia2 today to test and evaluate the effectiveness of Airport Emergency Procedure (AEP) for aircraft emergencies at this airport and also to ensure all agencies at the airport are always well prepared in case of aircraft accident.
Besides that, the practice was also to test the response of other support agencies such as National Security Council (MKN), Health Department (KKM), Jabatan Bomba & Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM), Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM), Immigration Department, Customs Department, Civil Defence Department (JPAM), Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia, Airlines, and other related agencies. All parties concerned, especially the management and staff of Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn. Bhd. including 110 volunteers who acted as casualties and next-of-kin were involved in this practice.
Tn. Haji Mohammad Suhaimi Bin Abdul Mubin, General Manager of Malaysia Airports Sepang Sdn. Bhd. said, “This practise is important to ensure all supporting agencies are aware and well prepared on their role in case of aircraft accident. This drill will also help to maximize confidency and minimize panic if the actual incident happens.”
Suhaimi added, “Part of maintaining KLIA’s standard is ensuring that not only all services and facilities are world-class, but the safety and security of the airport users, all agencies and also the workforce remains one of our top priorities. Malaysia Airports would like to thank all agencies which participated in this exercise, and hope this drill will equip them with relevant skills and knowledge required to handle such incidents.”
This practice is also in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and DCA requirement for all airports in Malaysia to conduct a full-scale crash practice once in every two years. Apart from the full-scale crash practice requirement, the airports were also required to conduct an annual Emergency Evacuation Exercise at the terminal building. Regular table top exercises on various emergencies are also conducted regularly.
