Malaysia Airports Scoops Two Awards At The Human Resources Excellence Awards

SEPANG – Malaysia Airports’ commitment towards relentless pursuit of human capital excellence was acknowledged with two awards at the Human Resources Excellence Awards by Human Resource Magazine, a publication of Lighthouse Independent Media Singapore in the annual ceremony held on 29 October 2014 at Hilton Kuala Lumpur Hotel. 

Malaysia Airports won Silver for Excellence in Employee Development and Bronze for Excellence in Workplace Well-Being. The company Malaysia Airports was also a finalist in three other categories – Excellence in Compensation and Benefit Strategy, Excellence in CSR Practices and HR Team of the Year. 

This was the second major human resources award won by Malaysia Airports in 2014, the first being the Anugerah Majikan 1Malaysia for ‘Syarikat Besar’ category in conjunction with the Hari Pekerja 2014 celebration In June. 

Ir Suradini Abdul Ghani, Senior General Manager Human Resources Services, Malaysia Airports who received the award on behalf of the company said, “The award is a testament to Malaysia Airports’ commitment towards staff development and staff well-being that is responsive to changes in the working environment. We are continually enhancing our efforts in pro-actively managing, maintaining and sustaining the symbiotic relationship between employer and employee. This award will certainly motivate us to further elevate human resources standards at Malaysia Airports." 

Under Malaysia Airports’ six strategic pillars, staff well-being and engagement was identified as one of the most important, underlining the company’s commitment towards employee welfare. Facilities provision for staff and family members, medical fund benefits, hostel, cafeteria, gym, soccer field were among the initiatives provided to enhance staff engagement. 

The company also practiced Management Visibility, where senior management team members were encouraged to actively participate at various engagement avenues such as sports carnival and sporting / health facilities, annual events and scheduled town halls. 

The strong relationship enjoyed between the company and employee unions was also one of the contributing factors behind Malaysia Airports’ effective staff well-being management. This solid relationship enabled both staff and company to work well together, resulting in a win-win partnership for both parties. 

Human capital development was also high in Malaysia Airports’ human resource agenda, as evidenced by the establishment of Malaysia Airports’ Talent and Performance Unit, Training Management Unit, Leadership programmes and Talent Pool programmes. 

Employees were also inculcated with the Malaysia Airports Brand Identity - Friendly and Firm; Progressive and Practical; and Business-driven and Responsible in line with the company’s mission to create joyful experiences by connecting people and businesses. 

The Human Resources Excellence Awards aimed to honour and award outstanding HR practices and provided a platform for HR practitioners to network and celebrate their achievements. Uniquely, its judging panel must be made up solely of HR leaders from major organisations. 

All categories were opened to HR teams in organisations based in Malaysia, whether privately-owned, government, or NGOs. All programmes, campaigns, strategies and initiatives entered needed to have demonstrable results from the period of 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2013.
