SEPANG – Following the announcement made by the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) on the new Passenger Service Charge (PSC), Malaysia Airports will give its cooperation to implement the PSC as regulated. While there is still a differentiation between KLIA and klia2 for international PSC at RM73 and RM50 respectively, we welcome this current move by the authorities as the first step towards the equalisation of PSC for all airports and terminals, in line with worldwide common industry practice.
As announced by MAVCOM, they will perform a review of the PSC in a year’s time with a view to equalise the PSC at KLIA and klia2 for international flights. This is indeed a wise move by MAVCOM as the outcome of the objectives can be validated after one year.
With the equalisation for the ASEAN PSC for all airports in Malaysia, we hope this will stimulate a much higher ASEAN traffic growth into Malaysia thus benefiting the country.
It is anticipated that there will be no material financial benefit to Malaysia Airports as the increase in international and domestic PSC is counter balanced by the reduction in the ASEAN PSC across all airports. In 2015, ASEAN traffic constitutes almost 50 % of our international traffic.
