My Dad, My Olympian – A Daughter’s Heartfelt Tribute To Father Wins Malaysia Airports’ #myolympian Campaign

Kuala Lumpur, 13 September – Twenty-four-year-old Nur Ellisha Shahrudin’s touching tribute to her Olympian of a father moved officials of Malaysia Airports’ #MYOLYMPIAN campaign so much that she was awarded the grand prize of the campaign.

Nur Ellisha Shahrudin had uploaded a photo with caption “#MYOlympian is my dad. You are not an athlete daddy, but you deserve all the medals in the world for your courage and strength in fighting cancer. I'm sure it wasn't easy to hear when you were diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. But it turns out you took the diagnosis positively. This is exactly what having cancer did for you. You view yourself in a different way, you even look at things differently now. What I've learned throughout your cancer-life-journey is; when situation appear to be negative, they could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Like a rainbow after the rain, there's always a good thing after the pain, and for that I always look up to you as my inspiration”.

Ellisha’s heartfelt tribute pipped more than 95 other entries to win her a GOPro Hero Session 4 camera.

An elated Ellisha exclaimed: “I literally screamed when I first received news of my win.  Out of so many inspiring and heartwarming entries, I would never thought that I would be the grand prize winner. Special thanks to Malaysia Airports for organising this meaningful campaign in honouring people who have made impacts on their lives.”

Malaysia Airports’ Senior General Manager, Commercial Services, Mohammad Nazli Abdul Aziz said, “The #MYOlympian campaign was held to show support to our athletes who participated in the recent Rio Olympics.  We decided to expand its parameters by inviting the public to nominate the Olympians in their lives because we believe that everyone has a hero, an Olympian in their lives.

“Response was most encouraging considering that it is the first time that we have such open online contest.  Nominees included parents, grandparents, friends, athletes and even pets!  Ellisha’s story truly touched us.   We congratulate her on her win and hope for her father’s continued recovery.”

The lass from Klang revealed that she got to know about the contest when she came across the link on Facebook.

What is she going to do with her GoPro?  “I love snorkeling. Now I can start planning my next island vacation and record loads of underwater video with the new GoPro. I hope Malaysia Airports will keep making contest like this in future,” enthused Ellisha.
