New Crew Processing Centre Ready For ORAT And Expected To Halve Airlines Crew Processing Time

The dedicated crew processing centre is expected to undergo ORAT exercise for 2 weeks and ready for operations by 15 June

SEPANG – Malaysia Airports will be conducting an Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) exercise for the newdedicated processing centre for departing airline crew at klia2. The ORAT exercise will be launched on 31 May 2019 and it is a simulation exercise that will ensure systems that are in place are fully functioning and that all relevant stakeholders are ready to undertake their specific roles at this new facility. The dedicated crew processing centre is expected to halve the processing time of departing crew and improve the operational efficiencyof airline partners at klia2, particularly AirAsia.

The projected efficiency resulting from the establishment of the dedicated processing centre is expected to also benefit passengers as the airline will be able to offer more routes and increase flight frequencies with the faster turnaround time. The facility is equipped with integrated immigration and customs clearance facilities that will significantly reduce the time taken for the airline crew to reach the boarding gates.

The ORAT exercise will be conducted for a duration of about two weeks where different operational trials will take place during this period. Every operational aspect will undergo trial such as the security process flow of the departing crew, immigration and customs checks, efficiency of equipment such as X-ray machines, vehicle manoeuvring for pick-up and drop- off, as well as fall back procedures in the case of system failures.

According to Malaysia Airports group chief executive officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, “The ORAT is a crucial process as it presents an excellent opportunity for stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the new facility, provide feedback and simulate contingency plans.   From the feedback gathered, we will be able to assess the adequacy of the facility and make necessary improvements. Once all safety and operational requirements are met, the dedicated processing centre will be ready to commence operations.”

“We are grateful to our partners from the Immigration Department of Malaysia and Royal Malaysian Customs for embarking on this journey with us. This is a cultivation of our transformation into a service leader and becoming a caring host for our airline partners and passengers. Not only will the facility help reduce the traveling time for the crew to the domestic and international gates by 66% and 40% respectively, it is also a strong testament to our commitment in facilitating the growth of our airline partners,” he added.

The latest updates on the dedicated processing centre at klia2 are available on all Malaysia Airports’ social media platforms - Twitter (@MY_Airports), Facebook (@malaysiaairports) and Instagram (@malaysiaairports).
