Sibu Airport Runway Reopened For Flight Operations After Two-Hour Closure

SIBU – Earlier this evening, we experienced some technical issues with the runway edge lights at Sibu Airport. A NOTAM was issued to declare closure of the runway to happen at 7.00pm for immediate rectification as it was unsafe for night flight operations.

Our engineering team was immediately deployed to carry out repair works and the runway has been declared safe for night flight operations at 9.13pm this evening.

The two-hour closure had resulted in the cancellation of 6 arriving and 6 departing flights operated by both AirAsia and MasWings affecting more than 1,500 passengers.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused and the airport team is working closely with the airlines to reach out to the affected passengers.

To all passengers, please check with your airline on the latest flight schedule. Stay connected on our social media platforms for the updates as well; Malaysia Airports on Facebook and Instagram, and MY_airports on Twitter.
