Smooth Upgrading Process for Communications Infrastructure at KL International Airport

SEPANG - Malaysia Airports is pleased to inform that the planned communications infrastructure upgrade at KL International Airport (KLIA) which started on 1 January 2019 did not cause any communications service disruption at both terminals. Since it started, the upgrading process has been smooth and mitigation measures put in place during this period has been successful in ensuring that the availability of cellular and leased lines within the passenger and cargo terminals respectively remain at normal levels. We are also pleased to note that, thus far, there have been no complaints from all stakeholders such as public, airlines, tenants, and telcos on any communication service disruption at the airport.

The airport operator had announced on 31 December that the communications upgrade which will be done in phases over a period of approximately three months is meant to improve the overall coverage and capacity of the cellular network at the airport and to cater for future digitalisation requirements such as Airports 4.0 initiatives, the e-commerce ecosystem and the Aeropolis development.

Mitigation measures will remain in place until the upgrade process is completed to ensure that service levels at the airport is not compromised. Among the mitigation measures include   placing fixed-line phones at Information Counters for the convenience of the airport users as well as making sure the free Airport Wi-Fi service remains at excellent connection strength to enable users to communicate via data calls through mobile apps such as WhatsApp and Messenger. Airport CARE Ambassadors will also be available on-site to guide passengers who may require assistance.

Those who have any queries or wish to provide feedback may do so through email at CARE@malaysiaairports.com.my or call the hotline number at 03-8776 9006.
