Malaysia Airports Achieves New Recovery Milestone With Over 10 Million Passengers Movements In June 2023

SEPANG - Malaysia Airports Group achieved a new recovery milestone for handling over 10 million passengers in June 2023, the highest since the global shutdown in March 2020. Its network of airports in Malaysia and Turkey continued to showcase consistent passenger growth by recording a new high of 4.9 million total international passenger movements for June 2023, an increase of 7.1% from the preceding month. Meanwhile, total domestic passenger movements maintained above the 5.0 million mark for the second consecutive month in June 2023 at 5.3 million.

Vibrant Airline Developments Continue To Signal Recovery For Malaysia

SEPANG - Vibrant developments in terms of route resumption and introduction of new destinations by airlines in the months of November and December continue to signal recovery for the aviation sector in Malaysia. Within these two months, Malaysia Airports welcomed two new airlines and witnessed the resumption of four pre-pandemic route services as well as the introduction of one new international route. On top of that, Emirates (EK), had also brought back the Airbus A380 which is the world’s largest commercial aircraft to operate the Dubai (DXB) - Kuala Lumpur (KUL) route.

Malaysia Reopening A Turning Point For Earnings Recovery And Improved Outlook

SEPANG – The Malaysia Airports Group (the Group) saw significant improvement in the Group’s Earnings Before Interest Taxes, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) and revenue for the half year ended 30 June 2022 (1H22) in line with the significant increase in passenger movements in both its Malaysia and Turkey operations. The Group’s (EBITDA) for 1H22 was RM471.7 million on the back of 90.9% higher revenues of RM1.26 billion compared to the same period last year (1H21).

ISG Registers 90% Of Pre-Covid Levels Monthly Passenger Movements, Driving Recovery For The Group

SEPANG – Malaysia Airports’ Turkish asset, Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISG) continues to lead in the recovery of the Group by registering 3.2 million passenger movements last month. The 7% increase from July registered by ISG remains the main contributor to the Group’s total passenger movements of 3.5 million in August 2021. To-date, ISG has also registered the highest passenger movements in August reaching 90.0% of August 2019 levels due to the increase in summer travels.
