Airlines Cooperations Required To Ensure Optimum Service Level At Penang International Airport

Sepang – Penang International Airport is operating at full capacity and it is imperative that all parties work towards optimizing the operations at the airport. Despite the concern voiced out by the airport operator several days ago, the situation in Penang International Airport remains the same as before where only about 70% of the check-in counters are being utilised by the airlines.

According to Malaysia Airports Chief Operating Officer Dato’ Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh, “Checks over the last five days still show that the 30 check-in counters dedicated for local airlines are still underutilised due to lack of staff from the airlines. The same goes for the self-check-in kiosks and self-baggage drop (SBD) facilities provided by the airlines, where at least three of these facilities are not operational at any one time, contributing to long queues for the check-in process.” AirAsia is allocated 5 check-in counters and 6 self back drop counters but only half of the counters were operated.

Malaysia Airports hopes that the situation will improve in the near future as all parties at the airport must work together to improve airport experience, especially as we gear up for Experience Penang Year 2020 and Visit Malaysia 2020.
