Klia Celebrates Upcoming 29th Sea Games With Kl2017 Torch Run

SEPANG – More than 1,000 people, consisting of Malaysia Airports’ employees and the surrounding community within Sepang were present earlier this morning to celebrate and participate in the Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017) Torch Run for the Sepang district level. Malaysia Airports as a gold sponsor and official Welcoming Partner is proud to flag off this leg of the torch run in KL International Airport (KLIA).

The KL2017 Torch was handed over by Dengkil State Assemblyman YB Tuan Shahrum Mohd Sharif to the Senior General Manager of Malaysia Airports, Zainol Mohd Isa to signify the start of the leg. Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Datuk Saravanan A/L Murugan was also present at the event to flag off the run. Ten Malaysia Airports’ senior management team and employees participated as torch bearers during this 8.4 km torch run. They were also joined by 527 other employees.

Commenting on the involvement of Malaysia Airports in the KL2017 Torch Run, Zainol said, "We at Malaysia Airports are proud to be part of the KL2017 Torch Run today. This is a historic moment for us, not only as employees of Malaysia Airports but also as a Malaysian citizens. We are proud to continue serving the nation especially during such a momentous occasion of Malaysia hosting KL 2017. Our role as one of the sponsors of KL 2017 is made even more meaningful as this year is also our Silver Jubilee year. So, we think it is a fitting occasion that serves as one of the important milestones in marking the celebration of our 25th Anniversary.”

Malaysia Airports takes seriously its role as the custodian to the country's major gateway - KLIA, and official Welcoming Partner for KL 2017. Apart from ensuring that the excitement of the games is felt at the airport through themed ambiance installation and activation – it is also supporting the facilitation of the arrival of the contingents, officials and supporters. There will be about 60 to 70 roving ambassadors placed at key touch points at both terminals, KLIA and klia2, to provide operational and directional assistance. These ambassadors are recruited from staff members who are also excited and proud to do their bit in supporting the country.

The KL2017 Torch has traversed all over Malaysia since May and is currently continuing its last run in the state of Selangor before the opening of the 29th SEA Games on August 19. The high point of the run will be when the torch is brought into the Bukit Jalil Stadium to light up the Games cauldron at the opening ceremony.
