SEPANG – In conjunction with the upcoming 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and the 9th ASEAN Para Games, Malaysia Airports as a Gold Sponsor of Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017) is all set and ready to play its role as the official Welcoming Partner of KL2017.
Malaysia Airports has kick-started the excitement of the Games which is celebrated every alternate year, with the participation of more than 1,000 people, consisting of Malaysia Airports’ employees and the surrounding community within Sepang in the KL2017 Torch Run for the Sepang district level last Friday.
Malaysia Airports takes seriously its role as the custodian of the country’s 39 airports including KL International Airport (KLIA) – Malaysia’s premier gateway into the nation and official Welcoming Partner for KL 2017. Malaysia Airports is proud to welcome nearly 7,000 athletes and game officials from 10 countries who will be here to take part in one of the region’s most important multi-sport event by supporting the facilitation of the arrival of the contingents, officials and supporters.
There will be about 60 to 70 roving ambassadors placed at key touch points at both terminals, KLIA and klia2, to provide operational and directional assistance. These ambassadors are recruited from staff members who are also excited and proud to do their bit in supporting the country and will be placed at key touchpoints along the arrival flow (and later the departure flow as well) to provide operational and directional assistance.
According to Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports, “Malaysia Airports is delighted to play a role in contributing to our country’s glory and be a significant part of Malaysian history – more so since it is also our company’s 25th anniversary. In our silver jubilee year, we believe that our collaboration through the sponsorship of KL 2017 is the perfect way for us to fulfil our mission of creating joyful experiences not only for the athletes and game officials but also other passengers who will be passing through our airports.”
“On top of this, we are not limiting our contribution to the games period only. We are proud to sponsor four Malaysian athletes who will also act as our ambassadors. The four athletes will be Farah Ann Hadi, Mohamad Ridzuan Puzi – the Para Athlete, Irfan Shamsuddin and Sara Yap.”

Apart from ensuring that the excitement of the games is felt at the airport through themed ambiance installation and activation through welcome banners, posters, exciting games and activities as well as photo booths, Malaysia Airports is also proud to be collaborated with other partners namely the Asian’s leading transportation service provider, Grab Malaysia, world’s best low-cost airline, AirAsia and an award-winning conglomerate of luxury and lifestyle brand, Valiram Group to spark the excitements of the Games at KLIA and klia2 by having some exciting activities and offerings at their kiosks and outlets.
KLIA’s total passenger traffic movements grew by 7.6% in 2016. Of the 53 million passengers passing through airport last year, 38 million were international passengers. On average, both KLIA and klia2 sees more than 140,000 passenger movements, to and from more than 120 destinations worldwide and is well positioned to handle additional passengers during this season.
