Malaysia Airports Quickly Rectifies Burst Pipe That Caused A Ceiling To Collapse At Empty Boarding Lounge

SEPANG - We wish to inform that the burst pipe at the Gate K8 boarding lounge in klia2 terminal has been rectified and the lounge resumed full operations at 2.30 pm today. The incident, which happened at approximately 5.30am this morning had caused part of the ceiling to collapse. The passenger boarding lounge was empty when the incident happened as there were no flights scheduled at that gate. An airport staff had promptly alerted the operations team for immediate rectification. Both our engineering and cleaning teams worked quickly to rectify the situation and managed to reopen the gate for operations with new ceilings and clean floors by mid-day. The incident neither cause any interruption to flight operations nor any inconvenience to passengers.

Group chief executive officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin said that the team was quick to respond to ensure continuous smooth operations at the airport especially during this peak travelling period. “While the incident was unfortunate, it did not impact flight operations as klia2 has ample bays to accommodate any gate changes and we were able to reassign the gates ahead of time for the flights.  I would like to thank the team on the ground for being efficient in handling the situation and this includes our airline and ground handling partners for being patient and understanding throughout the incident.”

Malaysia Airports reported that its engineering team will continue to monitor the situation of the replaced pipes. Earlier today, a video surfaced on Twitter showing the collapsed ceiling and water gushing out from the burst pipe causing the lounge to be flooded. We take this opportunity to reassure all passengers that the situation has been fully rectified. Nevertheless, we value and welcome feedback as we work towards providing a joyful experience at our network of airports.
