Malaysia Airports To Unleash The Explorer In Every Traveller

Once in lifetime opportunity to be a panda volunteer

Sepang, December 8 – Every traveller is an explorer and Malaysia Airports is hoping to unleash the explorer in every traveller passing through Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2 terminals with its latest Indulge & Explore Campaign.

Combining the two most common traits of every traveller – shopping and exploring – the Indulge & Explore Campaign seeks to reward travellers for shopping and dining at KLIA and klia2 Terminal while giving them the opportunity to explore.

“The end and beginning of each year is usually a period where people are extremely focused on finding, purchasing, and giving the perfect present. Such ‘indulgences’ need not be meaningless or frivolous. It is possible to indulge and benefit from it in terms of broadening one’s horizons and experiences particularly in the area of wildlife conservation and personal wellness,” said Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, Manaing Director of Malaysia Airports.

Under Malaysia Airports’ Indulge & Explore Campaign, travellers stand to experience the opportunity of a lifetime as a volunteer in a Panda Experience Programme. The six-day Panda Experience Programme is the Grand Prize of the Indulge & Explore Campaign.

Datuk Badlisham added: “Malaysia Airports has always been a supporter in sustainability practices. We were the first airport in the world to incorporate a rainforest in our terminal. The Indulge & Explore Campaign is an extension of what we believe as a corporation – the need for, and the importance of sustaining our ecosystem.

“Over and above the unique experience of being a panda volunteer, we hope that the grand prize winner will share his/her knowledge and become an advocate for conservation not necessarily for pandas but for local animal species. The experience will truly be priceless.”

To be eligible for the contest, a traveler will need to spend a minimum of RM200 at any F&B or retail outlets at KLIA and/or klia2 Terminal. They then scan the receipts of their purchases at one of the 14 automated e-kiosks located throughout the terminals. Shoppers will also be given the privilege of doubling their entries when they use their MasterCard card.

Information captured at the e-kiosks will be uploaded to an off-site server computer that will randomly select a weekly winner for 13 weeks. Weekly prizes comprise seven three-day Lovina Dolphin Experience trip for two at Lovina, Bali; or six three-day New Leaf Detox Programme for two in Koh Samui, Thailand.

Travellers will also have the opportunity to participate in kinetic augmented reality games where they can win instant prizes from a variety of participating retailers at the airports.

“MasterCard is very proud to partner with Malaysian Airports for over a decade now to create unforgettable and priceless experiences for customers. As a technology company in the global payments industry, we constantly seek innovative ways to provide safe, smart and secure payments for our cardholders, especially when they shop and travel,” said Safdar Khan, Country Head, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei.

To further promote an understanding of conservation amongst Malaysians and international travelers, Malaysia Airports will be organizing a series of conservation awareness activities from 7 December 2015 till 6 March 2016.

Activities planned include talks on wildlife conservation, personal wellness (conserving self) as well as educational visits to KLIA’s forest in an airport for selected groups of children to instill in them the importance of nature conservation.

Malaysia Airports is also bringing its exploration theme online with a digital campaign on its Indulge At Malaysia Airport Facebook. The online campaign is supported by its Twitter and Instagram platforms. From December 2015 till February 2016, participants of the online contests stand to win prizes worth up to RM150 each month. Kicking off December is the “Spot The Panda” contest where participants are required to find “missing” pandas on Malaysia Airports’ mobile app. The person who finds the right number of missing pandas will win prizes.

“While the annual Indulge campaign is an important event in our marketing calendar, it is has evolved to become more than just a means for us to drive non-aeronautic based revenue. We want travelers who participate to take away something meaningful – the realization that one can indulge for a cause,” commented Datuk Badlisham.
