SEPANG - Malaysia Airports is the proud host to the much anticipated aviation summit and sustainability awards held by the Centre of Aviation (CAPA) in Malaysia from 1 to 3 November 2023. ‘CAPA Asia Aviation Summit and Sustainability for Excellence Awards 2023,’ convenes 350 delegates from across the globe who will spend the next two days gaining insights into issues and trends that shape the aviation industry in Asia. This prestigious event is part of CAPA's regional summit series and is highly regarded as an industry benchmark event across Asia offering valuable networking opportunities and unique insights from CAPA’s own market experts and the region’s top aviation and travel executives.

Minister of Transport Malaysia, YB Loke Siew Fook officiated the event and said that Malaysia is deeply committed to advancing aviation sustainably and efficiently, “Our vision for the Malaysian aviation sector is deeply rooted in sustainability. It is outlined in the National Transport Policy (NTP) 2019-2030, which emphasises the efficient and sustainable use of resources while minimising environmental pollution. We understand the pressing need to reduce our carbon footprint and promote a greener future. We are dedicated to this cause and are actively working towards sustainable practices and solutions.”

The Chairman of Malaysia Airports, Tan Sri Datuk Zainun Ali, echoed similar sentiments when she commented that the future of aviation looks promising based on the recent travel outlook by Airports Council International (ACI), "Global passenger traffic is expected to reach 8.6 billion passengers, that is 94.2% of 2019 levels. Meanwhile, the Asia-Pacific region is expected to reach approximately 3.4 billion passengers in 2024, which is 99.5% of 2019 level. While we may be brimming with hope at the prospects of this much awaited growth, we also share a collective responsibility as industry players to ensure sustainable aviation practices. To this effect, Malaysia Airports has also
embarked on a crucial journey to enhance our sustainability framework. This has resulted in a comprehensive strategy and roadmap towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050."
