MSOSH Awards Gold For Safety And Health Standards At Airports

Malaysia Airports received 4 Gold and 1 Silver awards from the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health

SEPANG – Malaysia Airports has consistently demonstrated its commitment to safety and health standards across its network of airports across Malaysia and has been recognised by the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health Standards (MSOSH) in its latest awards programme. MSOSH benchmarks industrial safety standards nationwide,  and guided by these standards have  honoured Malaysia Airports with  the Gold Class 1 Award for Sandakan Airport (IATA Code: SDK) and the Gold Class 2 Award for both KL International Airport (IATA Code: KUL) and Kota Bharu Airport (IATA Code: KBR). In addition, Malaysia Airports corporate office received the Gold Class 1 Award whereas our subsidiary, Sama-Sama Hotel received the Silver Award.

The group chief executive officer (CEO) of Malaysia Airports, Dato’ Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh reiterated that safety standards at all airports are guided by protocols and requirements set by global and national agencies including MSOSH, “Safety at our airports has always received top priority, and with the current pandemic we are even more vigilant. Implementation alone is not enough - stringent documentation on the protocols and periodic on-site audits ensure that standards are upheld at the highest level. The stellar audit results behind these awards are testaments of our commitment to ensure the safety of all airport guests.”

The MSOSH Occupational Safety and Health Award (OSH) is an annual award presented to organisations that meet the stringent documentation and site verification audit by a panel of auditors from various agencies, namely the  Department of Occupational Safety And Health Malaysia (DOSH), Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), SIRIM Berhad, Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF), Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH), multinational corporations and private companies.

Among the award evaluation criteria include the management’s commitment towards OSH; compliance to legal requirements; OSH communication platforms; OSH performance measurement such as incident cases and compliance audit; OSH programmes such as health day, trainings and campaigns, readiness of Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and last but not least the establishment of a management system such as ISO45001.

These OSH audits aim to ensure that preventive measures are practised to avoid fatalities, injuries and illness as well as to safeguard the company properties at all times.

“We have a specially designated unit to primarily look at OSH matters. Not only do they look into the consistency and effectiveness of our current practices, but they are also constantly keeping the organisation updated with the latest global trends that may be deemed necessary to enhance our safety and security standards,” Dato’ Mohd Shukrie further added.
